Every beginner kitesurfing lesson in Nafpaktos starts with the beach briefing, where you gear up and learn the essentials: safety basics, wind awareness, the wind window and how your safety systems work and how to communicate in the water.
Next, you’ll learn how to set up the kite with the bar correctly and practise your first control skills: steering the kite, understanding power vs. neutral zones, and launching and landing with an assistant. This usually takes place on the beach or in shallow water.
Once your control is solid, we move into flat, waist-deep water. Here you’ll learn body dragging — the essential skill that teaches you how to move with the kite, relaunch from the water, and manage the kite safely without the board.
When you’re ready, we add the board. You’ll learn how to position yourself, time the kite movement, and attempt your first water-starts and short rides. Most beginners get on the board and ride their first meters within 8–12 hours of lessons.
Yes, as long as you learn in the right conditions with an experienced instructor. Safety in kitesurfing comes from using modern gear, understanding the basic safety systems, and choosing suitable wind and water conditions. In Nafpaktos, we teach in flat, waist-deep water and beginner-friendly winds, so you stay in control and progress safely from your very first lesson.
We plan lessons around the daily forecast and choose the best spot each day (Nafpaktos, Tsimari or nearby beaches). If the wind doesn’t show up, we simply adjust the schedule during your stay — you never lose hours, and we only enter the water when it’s genuinely productive for learning.
Yes, as long as they meet basic safety requirements such as swimming ability, confidence in the water, and the ability to follow instructions. For younger riders, we use smaller kites and shorter, fun sessions. Let us know your child’s age, weight and water experience in our Contact form, and we’ll recommend the safest way to begin.
Most beginners need around 8–12 hours of lessons to reach their first independent rides in typical Nafpaktos conditions. Some progress faster, some need a bit more, it depends on wind, fitness and previous board-sport experience. Our 10-hour beginner course is designed as the most effective path from zero to a confident rider.
Lessons are taught in English, Greek, Dutch and Polish. Most of our students are international travellers, so we explain everything in clear, simple language step-by-step to make learning easy for beginners.
No, kitesurfing relies more on technique than strength. The harness takes the pull of the kite, so you don’t need much upper-body strength. A basic fitness level and confident swimming ability are enough. We can adjust the kite size, lesson pace and break times to keep you comfortable and safe.
